Today I would like to just share with all of you a link that relate to Lean outside of business. I have long said that Lean’s tools and concepts can help in every aspect of life, but here we see proof that others are getting that point.

Lean Implementation and Respect for People

Why in Lean Implementation is it vital to build an organization based upon Respect for People?

This simple and commonly asked question is the most misunderstood part of Lean and for that matter life in general. In the April 11 post I said, “It is the action of respect that builds the central pillar and earns those who do so the growth and strength in that key central support, which can overcome anything.” In today’s post we will start building upon the comment.

What do I mean when I say the action of respect? Well respect is one of the many English language words than can serve a multitude of purposes; it is often used as a noun, but can also be used as a verb. Those of us that understand English even marginally know that verbs are words that imply actions that will occur, have occurred or are occurring. When respect is used as a verb, it implies the activity of showing respect to someone is being performed by someone else.

Pacemaker in Custom Production Settings

When, Lean Manufacturing concepts interact with the uncontrollable reality of Life. We have to stop and reflect on what we are trying to accomplish by using Lean.

If we first understand that many of Leans concepts and methods are based on mass production processes that have clearly defined product lines. That will mean that not everything in every industry will work the same. Healthcare and Job Shops are faced with many of the same challenges due to the fact they provide support to other entities as required.
